Lights Out, Canada !

Three Grade 11 students from Parksville are asking secondary schools
across Canada to turn out the lights on May 4.

The national Lights Out, Canada! ( http://www.lightsoutcanada.tpweb.ca/
) campaign asks schools to spend the day learning about climate change
and related topics, and do it without using any artificial light. The
goals are to:

    * educate students about the dangers of global warming and what they
      can do to effect change
    * conserve energy
    * show how easy it is to help turn off global warming with the flick
      of a switch

Participating in the project is not a daunting task. In fact, the Lights
Out Team <http://www.lightsoutcanada.tpweb.ca/who.htm> know the idea
will work because 5 schools in Vancouver Island’s SD69 participated in a
pilot last December.

The team has compiled information about global warming and step-by-step
instructions to make Lights Out Canada a success.

Schools that sign up will get lesson plans addressing the questions:

    * What is global warming?
    * Why is it occurring?
    * Why is it a problem?
    * How can I make a difference?
