Cree School Board, as part of its initiative to foster Professional
Development for its teachers and pedagogical staff, is hosting its
2nd Regional Education Symposium at the Sheraton Center located in
downtown Montreal. The theme for this symposium is "Helping Each
Other Learn". There has been much discussion in the Cree School
Board, and in the education community at large, on school reform to
ensure the success of all students. Competency-based
socio-constructivist learning, differentiating learning, inclusion,
and guidance oriented schools are just some of the many concepts that
are espoused in the Quebec Education Reform. It is the belief of
Education Services that "transforming schools into results-oriented
professional learning communities" is the key to successful
implementation of these reform initiatives. With this symposium we
wish to provide teachers with the opportunity to share their
expertise with each other, to collaborate with each other and to
reflect on their teaching practices to effect positive change in
student achievement. We want to encourage teachers to help each other
learn through active participation in their local cycle-team. This
Call for Presentations is aimed at teachers, pedagogical staff and
anyone involved in the Education milieu. The estimated participation
is 400 teachers ranging from Elementary to Secondary levels, and
continuing Education. We welcome presentations in any of the
following languages: Cree, English and French. We are looking for
workshops that are minimum 1 hour in length and up to 90 minutes.
Prospective presenters are asked to indicate if they wish to repeat
their sessions as well. Presenters are asked to plan on approximately
20 - 30 participants per session. For those proposals that are chosen
for this Symposium, Cree School Board will cover expenses ranging
from material costs, travel, accommodation and honorariums. These
details will be provided with the acceptance letter. Cree School
Board teachers who are selected to present will receive an honorarium
of $250/half-day session while all others will receive an honorarium
as per agreed rates. Please complete and return the enclosed
"Workshop Presentation Proposal Form" to our offices. We will accept
proposals by e-mail/fax and mail. The submittal deadline is: April
30th, 2007 We look forward to hearing from you!! For more information
you may contact Jim Laird at: 514-260-6241 or at jlaird at cscree.qc.ca
