MPES has a particular interest in attracting pre-service teachers to
DreamCatching 2007. Aboriginal education authorities and schools
across Canada frequently rely on recent education graduates to staff
their classrooms. In addition, 50% of the Native population now lives
in urban centres and, as such, Aboriginal children attend mainstream
schools in larger and larger numbers. Through DreamCatching
workshops, education students will both enhance their math and
science teaching skills and gain understanding of making cultural
connections in these subject areas.

In order to encourage pre-service teacher participation, MPES is
offering a reduced registration fee for students of $150 (Canadian).

In addition, MPES is organizing a poster session in which students
can showcase math and science lesson plans designed for Aboriginal
students. The session will provide students with experience in lesson
plan development, cultural inclusion, conference presentation and
exposure to educators working in Aboriginal communities. The session
will be judged by keynote speakers and prizes will be awarded for the
best lessons. The registration fee will be waived for students who
choose to participate in the poster session.

The poster session will be limited to 25 presentations. The deadline
for applying to participate in the poster session is February 28,
2007.

Copies of student registration forms, and poster session guidelines
are attached. If you are teaching in a university, or have a student
teachers in your class room, please pass this information along to
anyone who might be interested.

Best,
Dawn
