Computer engineers:

  • Determine just how much information you can store on any hard drive
  • Figure out what instructions a computer needs in order to turn on and move information around
  • Design cables which link computers together to form networks
  • Develop peripheral computing devices such as printers, modems, scanners and digital cameras
In your community: 

Is your community hooked up to the Internet? Can you surf from home or only at school? As a computer engineer you could figure out your community's computing needs and help the local band or tribal council determine the best way to develop a local network connected to the Internet.
