Naval

Naval architectural engineers and ocean engineers conceive, design and construct ships, offshore structures and other marine vehicles. They may work in design, shipbuilding, fisheries, transportation, national defense, or the oil and gas industry.

Examples: 

Naval architecture/Ocean engineers are involved in applying the scientific principles of engineering and design to everything involved with the ocean, and other large bodies of water.

They can:

  • Design ships strong enough to survive typhoons and giant waves Manage offshore oil drilling platforms such as Newfoundland's Hibernia station
  • Oversee the burial of fiber optic cables across the ocean floor
  • Create new submarines and other underwater vehicles to search for British Columbia's famous monster of the lake, Ogopogo

Does your community have potential land claims of offshore oil and natural gas reserves? Does it need better equipped boats to service community fisherman who must go further away from shore to make a living?
