Engineering Chemistry
Engineering Chemistry
Chemistry, the way atoms and molecules react and interact, plays some role in just about everything. Engineering chemists use their knowledge of chemistry to develop solutions to engineering problems. They most often work with problems relating to the environment, oil and gas production, and materials development.

Engineering chemists differ from all other engineers because they bring forward chemical solutions to engineering problems. Their expertise is most often applied to environmental development, in the design of processes, and in the design of electronic and structural materials.

Examples

Engineering chemists are involved in:
Designing new rubber for cold weather use.
Developing pharmaceuticals.
Researching ways to keep lipstick on lips longer.

Engineering in your Community

Aboriginal peoples have a long history of using chemical processes to support life in the community. Tanning hides, dying materials, preserving foods are all good examples of chemical engineering.

As a person in the field of engineering and chemistry you could look at ways traditional practice might be used to develop economic ventures for your community. You might also work within a local manufacturing firm to ensure its processes do no harm to the environment.
